TruO2 Launches Exciting New Line of Personal Oxygen Products
Second Wind O2 LLC, the Highland Park, Illinois based manufacturer and distributor of TruO2 has launched their exciting new line of personal oxygen products.

Oxygen Benefits
Of all the essential nutrients needed by the human, oxygen is the one we must have on a moment to moment basis. We can’t live without it.

The Health Benefits Of Oxygen
Staying healthy means using vitamins or other nutritional supplements in order to keep key antioxidant levels high. Having a high oxygen level can greatly increase.

The Prime Cause and Prevention of Cancer - Part 1
Summarized in a few words, the prime cause of cancer is the replacement of the respiration of oxygen in normal body cells by a fermentation of sugar...

Oxygen/O2 Deficiency and Your Brain, Oxygen - The "Missing Link"
Every breath you take converts to energy. Human cells use nutrients from food and oxygen to create Adenosine Tri-Phosphate (ATP), the energy source that fuels cell function. If your cells receive too little oxygen, they produce less energy...

Doping in Sports: Blood Oxygenation Enhancement
Doping is the use of performance enhancing drugs or methods by athletes to gain a competitive advantage. Blood oxygenation enhancement is a type of doping that artificially increases an individual's hemoglobin concentration above normally occurring levels. Two common methods of blood doping are blood transfusion, or the transfer of blood into a person's vein, and stimulation of endogenous erythrocyte production. Both methods result in increased hemoglobin levels in the blood, which correlate to an increase in maximum oxygen uptake because the additional hemoglobin molecules can transport extra oxygen molecules throughout the body.

THE CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM & CONDITIONING: Delivering Oxygen to the Muscle cells
Regular exercise (walking, running, cycling, etc.) stimulates changes in the cardiovascular system, lungs, and muscle cells which improve work capacity - for both endurance and sprint activities. Added health benefits include a decrease in resting heart rate and a lowering of maximal blood pressure with submaximal exercise. These changes can be measured with an exercise program that elicits 60% of your maximum heart rate for 30 minutes, 4 times a week. Understanding the physiology behind this training effect will help you in developing your own training program.

Understand the body's use of oxygen during exercise
The way your body transports and uses oxygen during the initial stages of vigorous exercise might not sound very exciting, but new research suggests that understanding this process and adjusting your pre-race preparation accordingly can result in truly remarkable performance gains.

What is Oxygen Debt
Oxygen debt is the oxygen that needs to be replaced or paid back to the various systems in the body, such as the lungs, hemoglobin and myoglobin (found in the muscles of the body) and body fluids. This repayment of oxygen would catabolize the lactic acid formed in the muscles back to carbon dioxide and water.

VO2 Max: How Fit Is An Athlete?
VO2 Max is a measure of how fit an athlete is: It expresses the volume of oxygen a body consumes per minute. Athletic performance is directly related to the amount of oxygen supplied to the muscles. The supply of oxygen is dictated by how often the heart beats, the volume of blood transported by every beat and the amount of oxygen in that blood.

Introduction to VO2/VCO2 Fitness Assessment
The three major components of fitness are cardio respiratory fitness, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility. All three are important for health promotion, cardiovascular disease risk reduction and athletic performance. Of the three components, cardio respiration fitness is the best indicator of how well the heart, lungs, circulation and muscles are functioning.

Oxygen Uptake Kinetics in Sport, Exercise and Medicine
Despite its crucial importance, scientists interested in the limitations of human physical performance have only just started to give the field of oxygen uptake kinetics the attention it deserves. Understanding the principal determinant of the oxygen uptake kinetics is fundamental to improving human performance or the quality of life.

Blood Doping: Is It Really Worth It?
Blood doping has become an integral part of sports and fair play. It enhances your performance by increasing red blood cell mass and thereby delivering more oxygen to muscle (#2). This manipulation has gained notoriety in the sports world for what it can do for an athlete during endurance events.

Article on Oxygen Debt for Runners
You've heard them. The runner who says that he/she went into "oxygen debt" near the end of a 5K and thus had to slow down. The coach or expert who states that the ability to incur an "oxygen debt" is so limited that improving aerobic capacity is the only viable way to upgrade endurance performance significantly over time (don't worry - complete sentences are coming). Do such statements make sense? What is oxygen debt, and how does it actually influence your training and performances?

Aerobic characteristics, oxygen debt and blood lactate in speed endurance athletes during training.
Aerobic characteristics, oxygen debt and blood lactate were analysed in 20 male speed endurance athletes (400 m sprinters and 400 m hurdlers). The subjects were tested three times; at the beginning of March, at the end of May and at the end of August.

Altitude training effects: is altitude training a waste of time and money?
The effects of training and, more recently, sleeping at high altitude on athletic performance have been studied in the West for more than 30 years. During that time, these practices have become an almost essential aspect of the preparation of world-class competitors. Yet the evidence base supporting a beneficial effect altitude exposure for sea-level performance remains flimsy at best.

High Altitude Training Symposium
This conference was organised by the Hong Kong Sports Development Board in conjunction with the China Association of Sports Medicine. I was privileged to attend this conference and present on the topic of Intermittent Hypoxic Training. This is the first time that Chinese representatives reported on altitude research in China to an international conference audience.
